A website for people living with
Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
Written by a patient in remission.
I'm Luca Vizzielli. I've lived with HS for over 15 years, and I'm now in remission. Here I share my story, the food changes I made and tracked along the way, and what I've learnt, with sources.
Blog
What I've learnt about HS.
Over the years, I've gathered resources that I found useful while living with Acne Inversa, also known as HS. I created this blog to share what I've learnt, from Hurley stages and gut health to histamine and the AIP approach, in clear, accessible language, with sources wherever possible.

Flare by Flare
An honest, patient-written account of living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa: around 235 pages on my experience with elimination, reintroduction and tracking, alongside the wider factors I explored, including hormones, gut health, supplements and the AIP approach.
Sound familiar?
If you've been through this, you're in the right place
Flares, boils and lumps that keep coming back in the same spots
Underarms, groin, buttocks, around the anus, all common areas for HS. Mine kept flaring in the same places, on and off for years, even after antibiotics and having them drained.
“It's just an ingrown hair,” they told you
My first lump was removed as an ingrown hair. It took years and more doctors than I can count before I finally had a name for it: hidradenitis suppurativa.
Round after round of antibiotics, but the flares keep coming back
Antibiotics can calm a flare but don't address the root cause, that was my experience. I learned it the hard way, in my own skin.
Your flares seem worse with stress, your period or certain foods
Hormones, insulin, histamine and stress can all be part of the picture. In the articles, I look at what the research says and share the patterns I noticed in my own body.
Feeling ashamed to undress, go swimming or be intimate with your partner
The emotional weight of HS can be huge, yet so much of it goes unspoken. I know that shame. This site exists in part to remind you that you're not alone.
The book
You're not alone with HS
My experience of remission, and what I ate, changed and tracked along the way, from food and hormones to gut health and the AIP approach, gathered in around 235 pages. It's the book I wish I'd had when I was diagnosed.
